Ricky Chelette, Living Hope MInistries
The Gospel is transformational!  It is so powerful that it can change a person from a sinner to a saint, from a murderer to a mother.  The Gospel transforms our identities and redefines our lives in miraculous ways. On Sunday, June 7th and Sunday, August 2nd, Ricky Chelette of Living Hope Ministries shared with us how our identities are formed and how Christ can truly bring healing and wholeness to all those who are sexually and relationally broken. We believe these are messages that every parent, young person, and anyone desiring to more effectively minister to the world around us, should hear.

WHY? Understanding Gender Indentity

Q & A session with Ricky Chelette

WHY? Understanding Homosexuality and Gender Identity in Women - message from August 2nd exploring the social and developmental factors that lead to lesbianism or bisexuality among women.

Theatre Performance to Kick-Off Marriage Series
This February we will be starting a teaching series on marriage and relationships, and what better way to start off this series than a fun Valentines event for couples! Acts of Renewal, a national touring theatre company comprised of professional actors Jim and Carol Anderson-Shores, will help us do just that.

On February 8th at 8:00 p.m., Acts of Renewal will present a collection of their most popular theatre pieces in ”Love, Relationships and Other Confusing Things,” a dramatic and comedic look at marriage and relationships.  The performance explores various chapters of relationships bringing to life the hilarious, but very true-to-life conflicts, issues and crazy moments that comprise the journey of life.

Jim and Carol are based in Black Mountain, NC, but tour extensively throughout the country performing at arena marriage events and relationship conferences as well as at colleges and universities. Their material has been aired on PBS, and they have a long standing reputation of excellence in live theatre.

"Jim and Carol have an uncanny ability to connect with any audience using their unique blend of drama and humor. I would heartily recommend them -they are THE best!"
-Dennis Rainey, Founder and Executive Director of FamilyLife

“Jim and Carol perform hilarious, moving and powerful theatre that speaks right to the hearts of their audience.”
-Gary Chapman, best selling author of The Five Love Languages

"Love, Relationships and Other Confusing Things" looks at a variety of relationships and issues from communicating with the opposite sex to dealing with exasperating family members to renewing the romance when the flame's just about sputtered out. Acts of Renewal brings a performance that explores these issues offering comedy, insight and a refreshing evening of quality entertainment. “Love, Relationships and Other Confusing Things” will be performed at the Ida Green Theatre on the Austin College campus, 1201 E. Brockett St. For more information call the church office, 903-892-1476.

Ike Relief Report
A team of 25 adults and youth from LBC recently headed to Galveston to help with the relief effort following the devastation of hurricane Ike. From November 12th through the 15th these workers, ranging in age from 17 to 74, gutted houses, tore out floors, rebuilt roofs, helped people move, ministered to them, loved them, sat with them, talked with them, put arms around them, and most of all showed the love of God and displayed the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Listen to what some of the team members had to say about how God worked through this trip:

"Some people just seemed like they were okay, but when you took the time to pray with them, their emotions came out and you saw how empty, how dependent they were on Christ, and that we were the hands and feet of Christ right at that moment. It was just overwhelming." -Ashby Porter

"When we took off from here, I had a lot of preconceived ideas of who I was and what I was going to do, but God had a different idea...God used this time to reveal to me just how prejudiced I am...We went to a house of a lady who was 75 years old, kind of an invalid, in and out of a wheelchair, but she was just the sweetest lady you'd ever meet. She happened to be black...While I was there I had the opportunity to sit down and talk to her, pray with her, rejoice with her, and I don't think my heart will ever be the same. I'd never hugged a black person before....God has used this in my heart to show me that I really have a long way to go." -Jerry Bynum

The team worked in coordination with the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) TouchGlobal Crisis Response ministry. Various teams and ongoing relief efforts are being organized through this association with local support from Galveston Bible Church. The over $3100 that LBC donated to the work in Galveston went to paying the many full-time workers that are carrying on the relief effort through EFCA in Galveston.

Hear the Cry

Proverbs 21:13 tells us, “Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered.” Last year one student from LBC, Will Watson, spent six months in Africa, a place where he heard the cries and saw the lives of some of the poorest of the poor in the world firsthand. His story is something that each of us needs to hear so that we can rejoice in the ways that God is showing His love and power throughout the whole world, and so that we can ask ourselves how we will be a part of His gracious working there, as well as among those in need in our own backyard.
