New Pastors

In February and March, the elders officially called three men to join the LBC pastoral staff. This decision came after many months of prayer and careful consideration of the men the Lord wanted for our church. Doug Greene will be the new associate family life pastor, overseeing and ministering to all aspects of family life--from parents to children to grandparents to soon-to-be-parents. Lincoln Golike (pronounced GAW-LICK-EE) will be the new pastor to students, directly working with the high school and junior high ministries. And Simon Keizer will work with collegians and singles. We feel that God has blessed us with some of the highest quality and most experienced ministers we could have asked for, and we are excited that their families are becoming part of ours.

Doug Greene, Associate Family Life Pastor
Doug and Courtney were married in March of 2001. They met at Kanakuk Kamps in Lampe, Missouri. Doug grew up in several places because his dad was in the army. He was born in San Antonio and spent most of his childhood in Virginia. Courtney was born in Chicago and grew up north of the city until her junior year in high school when her family moved to Omaha, Nebraska. Courtney attended the University of Arizona and Doug went to Virginia Tech. Doug is close to finishing his seminary degree through The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. They have two beautiful daughters born in 2005 and 2007. They are also adopting a little boy from China. Courtney enjoys relationships and has a creative and decorative mind. Doug is a big Cowboys fan and will cheerfully accept tickets at any time.

Lincoln Golike, Pastor to Students
Lincoln was born in Colorado and grew up in Texas. He went to school at Flordia State University, earning both his undergrad and graduate degrees. Carrie was born in Florida and grew up in Tennessee. She earned her degree from Middle Tennesse State University. They met at Kanakuk Kamps and have served the Lord together ever since. They both attended the Kanakuk Institute and have been invovlved in student ministry for many years. Beckam was born in November 2008, and a baby girl is on the way!

Simon Keizer, Pastor to College Students and Singles
Simon and Heather were married in July of 2003 right here in Sherman.  Simon was born and raised just north of London, England and lived there until he was 12 years old.  Heather is a native, not only of Texas, but right here in Denison, Texas where she grew up and graduated from high school.  Heather went on to receive her Elementary Education degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.  Simon received his undergrad at Hardin-Simmons University and went on to complete his Masters degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2002.  They have two boys, Landon and Lane, who were born in 2006 and 2007.  They are expecting their third in August!  Heather loves spending time with her family, building relationships, and is extremely organized.  Simon loves sports (especially soccer), singing, and traveling when possible (not so easy with three kids).

Building Project

The first phase of our building project is currently underway. If you haven't been out to our land on FM 691, we encourage you to head out there and see what's being done. The pond has been dug, trees are cleared, and the new drive and parking areas are almost completed. The stage and amphitheatre around the pond will be in soon. It's pretty exciting to see the transformation happening.

We have done four fundraising "Heave-Ho's" since announcing the start of the building campaign in the fall of 2008, working toward the goal of being able to start construction on the building itself.

We are excited to see how God will lead us through this endeavor, grateful for all that He has already provided to pave the way for it, and joyful with anticipation of a new place of our own in the community that can be an altar pointing to the Living God and a tool to help call others to Him through the gospel of Christ.
